BRADY'S - A POTTED HISTORY
The Brady Family have held a licence in London since 1902 when Luke's Grandfather opened his first pub in Wood Green. Brady's have been restaurateurs and licensees in London continually since that date.
Luke Brady has been in the food and drinks industry for over 40 years first working for the family business, owning and running a hotel in the country and finally opening Brady's Fish restaurant.
He has always had a love of food since his Mother took him to J Sheekeys in 1959 as a small boy for an end of term treat! He was very impressed by a pure white crab cocktail in a big glass coupe with homemade mayonnaise. He was in foody heaven! The start of his love affair with food and restaurants.
Brady's Fish was a eureka moment when Luke woke up one morning and thought 'we live on an island surrounded by some of the best fish in the world so lets celebrate it!' And so Brady's was born over the kitchen table with Amelia (also a food lover and keen cook) working out menus and recipes.
We kept it in the family when our two daughters helped us run Brady's when we were in our first venue in Old York Rd which we opened in 1989. Now we are just waiting for the grandchildren to grow up and help out too!
The ethos was keep it simple, fresh and good value. All our fish is delivered direct to our door straight from Cornwall (scallops, crab, turbot, John Dory etc,), Grimsby for our sustainable cod, haddock and plaice, and the East Coast for our delicious oysters. Also fresh Scottish Mussels from the Shetlands.
Luke has nearly 30 years of experience in buying fish so the fish you eat at Brady's is the best you can eat in London!
The family connection runs even beyond the restaurant, with our carefully selected wine range supplied by Patrick Brady from Hennings Wine Merchants in West Sussex. Patrick has a lifelong passion for quality wine, and offers the same dedication to the selection he has compiled for the list here at the restaurant.
